About Troop 975

Leadership

Troop elections are held twice a year, providing Scouts with the opportunity for a leadership role as Senior Patrol Leader or Patrol Leader. Some positions of responsibility are Troop Guide, Quartermaster, Scribe, Chaplain Aide, Historian, Librarian, Bugler, and Order of the Arrow Representative. Scout leadership training is held after each election.

Adult leadership opportunities include Patrol Advisor, Assistant Scout Master, Merit Badge Counselor, Troop Committee, Advancement Coordinator and more. Adults are encouraged to take BSA training in first aid, shooting sports, climbing, and aquatics.

Camping

The Mighty 975 has a well rounded program. We hold at least one outdoor activity each month. We ski, canoe, hike, bike, swim, ride horses, rappel, shoot shotguns and rifles, fish, explore caves, and have fun while camping. In 2018, the troop attended summer camp in the Colorado mountains, and our older Scouts went to Northern Tier in Ely, MN. The troop routinely camps in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and New Mexico. In 2021, the troop took 4 crews to Florida Sea Base for sailing, fishing, and snorkeling in Islamorada, Florida. Our older scouts also went canoeing at Northern Tier in Minnesota. In 2022, a Troop contingent backpacked at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. The troop offers a combination of traditional camping and high adventure activities.

Service

Troop service projects include ringing bells for the Salvation Army, Thanksgiving food collection, Earth Day clean-up at Chandler Park, Restore Hope, Illinois River trash clean-up, assisting with Cub Scout Pack activities, and Eagle projects.
